Glossary

Every slightly technical word you will meet in your dashboard, explained in one sentence, in alphabetical order.

Alt text (alternative text) — A short written description of an image. It does not appear, but it is read aloud by the software of people with impaired vision, and read by Google. See Alt text and focal point.

Block — A brick of content: a piece of text, a gallery, a form. A page is a stack of blocks. See Understanding blocks.

Bounce rate — The percentage of visitors who looked at only one page. A high figure is not necessarily bad. See Analytics.

Cookies — Small files placed in your visitors' browsers. On your site they are used to measure audience, and a banner asks the visitor's consent.

CTA (call to action) — A box with a button inviting the visitor to act. See The Call to action block.

DNS — The address book of the internet, saying which server a domain name points to. You only touch it if you connect a domain bought elsewhere. See Your site address.

Domain name — The address of your website, such as care-plus.ch. See Your site address.

Draft — A page that exists in your area but that the public cannot see. See Publishing and unpublishing.

Favicon — The tiny icon shown in the browser tab. See Name, logo and favicon.

Focal point — The part of an image that must always stay visible, even when the image is cropped automatically. See Alt text and focal point.

Hero — The big banner right at the top of a page, with its headline and background image. See The Hero block.

Hexadecimal (code) — The way a colour is written for a computer, in the form #004d40. See Colours and style.

ICS (.ics file) — A calendar invitation. Attached to appointment confirmation e-mails, it lets your patient add the appointment to their diary in one click.

Iframe — A small window inside your page, through which you see content from another site: a video, a map. See The Embedded content block.

Import / Upload — Sending a file from your computer to your website.

Maintenance mode — A switch that replaces your whole site with an explanatory page. See Maintenance mode.

Media library — The place where all your photos and videos are filed. See The media library.

Meta description — The short grey paragraph Google shows under your page title in its results. See Search engines (SEO).

Meta title — The blue clickable line Google shows in its results. See Search engines (SEO).

Palette — The set of four colours of your site. See Colours and style.

Parent page — The page a sub-page is filed inside. See Creating a sub-page.

Pixel (px) — The unit of measurement for screens. An image 2000 pixels wide is comfortable for a website.

Preview — A mode of the editor showing your page as it will be, while you edit it. See Editing a page.

Published — A page visible to everyone on the internet. See Publishing and unpublishing.

Responsive — Said of a website that adapts to the size of the screen. Yours is automatically, with no setting on your part.

SEO (search engine optimisation) — Everything that helps people find you on Google. See Search engines (SEO).

Slug — The end of a page's address: in my-site.ch/contact, the slug is contact. See Understanding pages.

Stripe — The international provider that handles your subscription payments. We never have access to your card number.

Subdomain — An address of the form your-name.nursee.ch, allocated to you when your site is created.

Unique visitor — One distinct person, counted once even if they look at ten pages. See Analytics.

URL — The technical word for « internet address ». What appears in the browser bar.

Watermark — The small nursee mark shown on your site when you have no active subscription. It disappears as soon as you subscribe.

WEBP — A modern image format, lighter than JPG at the same quality. We convert your images automatically to make your site faster.
